For the last two weeks we have been learning about Matariki. This is a special time of year when we begin to see the Matariki star cluster (part of the Taurus constellation) again, just before dawn. Traditionally Maori saw this as a time for harvesting root vegetables, planting winter crops, sharing meals with extended whanau, making kites and other woven items.
For the last two days we have been preparing vegetable soup with Miss Olney and today Jaydene showed us how to make Fry Bread. In accordance with Maori tikanga (protocol) we said karakia before sharing our soup and bread with our class and some of the other staff at Hurupaki.
The fried bread was YUMMO!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree! It was so easy to make. I'm sure we could do it again....
